Embark on a once-in-a-lifetime adventure to witness the breathtaking Andean Condor and discover the unique avifauna and endemics of the Apurimac Valley on our ANDEAN CONDOR AND APURIMAC ENDEMICS TOUR.

Chonta, also known as the valley of the condors, offers delightful views of the largest flying bird in the world, the Andean Condor. You’ll have the opportunity to witness these magnificent birds in their natural habitat, while learning about their behavior and habitat.

Itinerary
Chonta, the valley of the Condors.
Starting in Cusco, we will drive towards the town of Limatambo and start birding at this point, driving towards the community of Chonta, we should make stops for 3 hard-to-see birds: “Pale-tailed”Canastero, White-cheeked Puffbird and eventually Peruvian Pygmy Owl. Once in Chonta we will stop for a picnic lunch and then start walking to get to the Canyon of the Apurimac to witness the greatest flying bird on earth, the Andean Condor. In the way back to our lodge in Mollepata, right in the twilight we will search for the rare Koepke´s (Apurimac) Screech Owl(E). Andean Condor, The “Kuntur” (Condor in local language) is the world biggest flying bird and and well respected for the Peruvian Culture for it´s status of Divinity.

After breakfast we will start gaining hight. Due to the particular conditions of the area, most of the birds are of special interest such as: Rusty-fronted Canastero (Endemic), White-tufted Sunbeam (E), Vilcabamba Tapaculo (E), Creamy-crested Spinetail (E), Apurimac Spinetail (E), Chestnut-breasted Mountain-finch (E), Apurimac Brush-finch (E), Green-and-white Hummingbird (E), Mountain Velvet-breast, Crimson-mantled Woodpecker, Tawny-rumped Tyrannulet, Tit-like Dacnis among others. After a picnic at the feet of the glaciars we will take the way back to Cusco.
